Specify configuration
Voice logger configuration considerations
Channel count specification
Specify the number of channels (ports) that should be recorded (C).
1 pc telephone line / extension / voice channel = 1 port
1 pc ISDN2 line / ISDN2 type digital extension (e.g. Bosch) = 2 ports
Because of channel expansions that can't be seen in advance it is recommended to calculate with some safety margin.
Hard disk capacity specification
Please estimate the average talking time per day in hours of each telephone line / voice channel, and summarize these. The result is how many hours must be recorded per day (D).
It is recommended to calculate with safety margin at this parameter too because of uncertainty of estimation and in order to achieve the expected storage time in case of some changes in the usual telephone traffic too.
Specify the storage time in days – because of the rotational storage the voice logger can preserve the voice recordings on the hard disk without backup to archiving media so long in time (T).
Calculation the necessary hard disk (HDD) capacity (CCRL Pro / Lite / Personal voice loggers)
HDD [MByte]= D[hours/day] * T [day]) * 16.2 MByte/hour (36 KBit/s compression).
The CCRL Pro voice logger can make additional compression in back or during automatic backup.
The 7.2 MByte/hour compression is still a good telephone voice quality, so in long term storage applications this value can be used too.
At 3.6 MByte/hour compression the speech is still understandable, but the tone already changes appreciably, so the usage of this compression is reasonable only when the small storage capacity is cardinal question.
HDD [MByte]= D[hour/day] * T [day]) * 7.2 MByte/hour (16 KBit/s compression)
HDD [MByte]= D[hour/day] * T [day]) * 3.6 MByte/hour (8 KBit/s compression)
If saving of voice recordings for longer time is required or you would like to save recordings on removable medias too because of safety reasons, you can specify the capacity of backup media too according to the calculation described above.
